We go to the gym to train so what we wear isn’t important, right? Wrong! There are some gym fashion faux pars which should be avoided at all costs. Below we list 5 common gym style mistakes and why you should know better.
1. Leggings Or Tights (Without Shorts)
Leggings might be comfy. You may even be wearing them because you believe the compression will help you with your training. But come on guys! Who wants to see your bits sticking out in front of them while they train? Put some shorts on and give the little man and his two friends their dignity back!
2. Wearing a Hat
Beanies are not acceptable unless you are training outside. You are not Sylvester Stallone running through the streets of Philly and you should dress accordingly. The same applies to caps, snap back or otherwise. Unless your workout session involves Arnie and Muscle Beach leave the cap in your locker!
3. Going Barefoot
Some training can be done barefoot. Yoga, Martial Arts and gymnastics to name a few. A weight session in Wigan on a Tuesday afternoon on the other hand is not one of them. Put your shoes and socks back on to ensure that you wont be leaving the gym floor with a little more than you bargained for.
4. Muscle Vests
For 99% of the population Muscle Vests are a no go. You’ll either be showing the world how much you love yourself or worse, how little you’ve looked after yourself. On a side note you may think the badly spelt and punctuated motivational tattoo on your chest looks great. Chances are though, the rest of us will just think you look like a tit.
5. Wash Your Clothes
A spray of deodorant may convince yourself that you smell lovely and fresh but you are kidding nobody. Fresh sweat on top of stale sweat and the bacteria feeding off it will not only earn you a bad rep at the gym, it could spell out some nasty skin problems including dermatitis and acne. Wash your gym clothes every time you work out for our benefit as well as yours.
