Many of the worlds most successful people anchor their success in the foundation of daily habits and rituals. These habits help to propel these individuals onwards in pursuit of excellence whether that be in the field of business, sport or in life in general.
What are these habits though? And if we adopt them will we see the same results? Below we look into the habits of the most successful and see how they can be used to shape our own success.
They Wake Up Early
It really does appear that "the early bird catches the worm"!
Early risers tend to get more done and not just because they have more hours in the day. Early risers tend to be more proactive, better at solving problems as well as being more optimistic.
Well known early risers include Apple CEO Tim Cook, Virgin Founder Richard Branson and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and studies have shown that 50% of self-made millionaires wake up at least three hours before their work day begins.
They Plan Ahead
Setting up each day with intention not only allows you to see what the coming day holds but it also allows you to prioritise and can even allow the brain to begin working subconsciously on tasks before you get to them.
Ever had that thing happen to you ? Where you go to bed thinking about a problem only for the solution to miraculously present itself the following morning? Its likely your subconscious has been searching for the answer while you slept.
The same thing happens when you plan ahead! You subconsciously prime yourself for the day ahead meaning increased motivation as well as a smoother and more productive day!
Exercise not only reaps massive physical rewards, but it obviously plays a part in business and life success if the following are anything to go by. - Barack Obama, Richard Branson, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffet, Oprah, Tim Cook and Mark Cuban have all gone on record to say that exercise plays a huge part in their success. Richard Branson even saying -
"I seriously doubt that I would have been as successful in my career (and happy in my personal life), if I hadn't always placed importance on my health and fitness".
Improved energy levels and an immune system boost are just two reasons why exercise is important, no matter what you are trying to achieve.
They surround Themselves with Smart People
If you become the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with, then it makes sense to spend time with smart people. Entrepreneurs such as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs had solid teams from the beginning - understanding that a strong group was imperative for success.
Spending time with people of higher intelligence forces you to grow and improve and can drive everyone in the group upwards.
Who are you spending the most time with at the moment and what direction have they got you travelling in?
They Get Things Done (Whether They Feel Like it or Not)!
I'll let you into a secret! The worlds most successful people don't always feel like doing the things that they have to. But guess what? They do them anyway! This is in fact, what often sets them apart from the rest of us.
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit". - Aristotle
We can go even further and say that excellence is the habit of getting things done, whether we feel like it or not!
They Invest in Themselves
Successful people realise that they need to consistently improve in order to stay on top of their game. By investing time in themselves to grow and develop, they ensure that they are always one step ahead of the game.
Abraham Lincoln once said
"Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe" Successful people never stop sharpening their axe.
Through a daily habit of reading and study, they ensure constant improvement and the success that inevitably follows.
Build these daily habits in to your routine to speed up success in your life.
